Applying Operations

The options in the Operations box, shown below, let you fill the inner areas of regions of interest and multi-ROI classes, as well as add or remove clipped regions.

If the Use range option is selected, only voxels within the selected intensity range will be added or removed (see Defining Intensity Ranges).

After creating a region of interest or multi-ROI class within a range of data, you may notice that pixels within inner areas were not included in the segmentation. To correct this omission, you can fill internal, enclosed portions of a selected region of interest or the selected class(es) of a multi-ROI.

Fill inner area options
  Description
3D Fills all internal, enclosed portions of the selected region of interest in all axes.
2D (X) Fills all internal, enclosed portions of the selected region of interest along the X-axis.
2D (Y) Fills all internal, enclosed portions of the selected region of interest along the Y-axis.
2D (Z) Fills all internal, enclosed portions of the selected region of interest along the Z-axis.
How to Fill Inner Areas
  1. Select the required region of interest or multi-ROI class(es).
  2. Choose a fill operation in the Fill inner areas drop-down menu, if required.
  3. Click the Apply button.

How to Add Clipped Regions
  1. Select the required region of interest or multi-ROI class in the Data Properties and Settings panel.
  2. Click the Clip Clip button button in the lower section of the panel. This option is available in the Clip box.
  3. Adjust the Clip box in a 2D or 3D view of the dataset, as required.
  4. Click the Add button to add the clipped region to the region of interest or selected multi-ROI class.
How to Remove Clipped Regions
  1. Select the required region of interest or multi-ROI class in the Data Properties and Settings panel.
  2. Click the Clip Clip button button in the lower section of the panel. This option is available in the Clip box.
  3. Adjust the Clip box in a 2D or 3D view of the dataset, as required.
  4. Click the Remove button to remove the clipped region from the region of interest or selected multi-ROI class.

This option for regions of interest lets you interpolate 2D regions through volumetric image data to create a 3D region of interest. You can choose the direction of the interpolation. For best results, the feature you select for interpolation should be regularly shaped, such as a cylinder or sphere.

How to Interpolate Regions of Interest
  1. Define a series of 2D regions on the feature of interest that you want to segment.

    In the illustration below, a series of three 2D regions (circled) were added to different slices on the Z axis

  2. Select the required direction of interpolation in the drop-down menu.
  3. Click the Apply Button.

    The 2D portions of the region of interest are interpolated through the image stack, as shown below.
